Acerca de Tonic Sol-Fa
An acclaimed Minneapolis–Saint Paul a cappella quartet, Tonic Sol-Fa is known for their exuberant, harmonically rich blend of pop and jazz. Emerging in the 1990s, the group has toured and recorded regularly. They perform both originals and covers from across the decades, and have issued albums like 2015's Original and 2019's holiday-themed March of the Kings.
Formed at Minnesota's Saint John's University, Tonic Sol-Fa is led by singer and founding member Shaun Johnson. The group initially formed in the mid-'90s and steadily gained a national following through touring and their numerous independent releases, including 2005's Boston to Beijing, 2009's Just One of Those Days, and 2019's Something for the Rest of Us. Along the way, the group was voted into the Midwest Music Hall of Fame and earned a 2010 Emmy Award for their song showcased in a Toys for Tots PSA. The group has been featured several times on PBS for holiday specials. Away from Tonic Sol-Fa, Johnson also performs with his genre-bending octet, Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience. In 2020, Tonic Sol-Fa released the EP All for One. ~ Matt Collar
