Acerca de Palms
A rock & roll band with an ear for a good pop hook, a double dose of infectious energy, and just the right amount of attitude for a chaser, Palms are a four-piece from Sydney, Australia who have become one of the more celebrated bands on the indie scene in the Antipodes. Palms were founded in 2011 by singer and guitarist Al Grigg and drummer and backing vocalist Tom Wallace, who put the group together shortly after the breakup of their previous band, Red Riders. Aiming to play music that was "less melodramatic and angsty," as Grigg put it, he and Wallace cut a low-budget single, "The Summer Is Done with Us," under the name Palms in early 2011. They expanded to a proper quartet with the addition of bassist Leroy Macqueen and guitarist Dion "Danger" Ford when they made their live debut in June 2011, and a second single, "Love" ("It's about love," the band helpfully noted), came out in May 2012. After establishing themselves with plenty of live work, Palms struck a deal with Spunk Records, and released their debut album, Step Brothers, in 2013. By the time the album was released, Macqueen had left the group to form the significantly more eccentric duo the Gooch Palms, and Brendan Walsh became Palms' new bassist. Palms signed with Ivy League Records, a subsidiary of the venerable Australian label Mushroom Records, and issued their second album, Crazy Rack, in October 2015. ~ Mark Deming
