Guy Pastor
Acerca de Guy Pastor
Guy Pastor was one of three sons of dance band leader, saxophonist and singer Tony Pastor. This triumvirate--also including Tony Pastor, Jr. and John Pastor -- were all involved in their father's music at times, a mainstay on the New York big band scene and eventually a haven for nostalgia seekers. While the latter two brothers made a brief dive onto the rocks--so to speak, in the form of a garage band called The Prime Mover in 1967--Guy Pastor stuck closer to his father's style. The father and son cut a full album together for the Roulette album and were pictured in a slight cuddle on the front cover.

A 1988 solo album entitled It's Magic presented Guy Pastor on his own but with similar expanded instrumental resources to his father, the difference being the younger man's interest in somewhat jazzier arrangements. Additionally, some critics remarked on a difference in vocal styles between the two generations, with the son performing in the smoother vocal style associated with the pop music of the '50s. Guy Pastor, who died of a heart attack when only in his mid '50s, also played keyboards and was a talented conductor. He was employed as a musical conductor and accompanist for singer Johnnie Ray. All three brothers also had a group together, the Pastor Brothers, at one point featured on a world tour for Pearl Bailey. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
