The members of English indie band Circa Waves first met while attending the 2013 Liverpool Sound City music festival.
∙ They got a big early boost from then-BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, who played the demo of their song “Young Chasers” twice on his show before Circa Waves had even played a gig. ∙ Concerned about living up to early hype, they played 10 shows under the name Malkovich Malkovich, while they polished their stage act without fan or press attention. ∙ Young Chasers, the band’s 2105 full-length debut, was their first of four consecutive Top 10 albums in the UK. ∙ Circa Waves teamed up with producer Alan Moulder (U2, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins) for their albums Different Creatures and What’s It Like Over There?. ∙ “Lemonade,” a 2020 single, was a collaboration with singer-songwriter Alfie Templeman, who recorded his vocals remotely due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
