Acerca de Beth Thornley
Singer/songwriter Beth Thornley combines classic sounds of '70s pop/rock with the earnestness of Aimee Mann and Beth Orton for her own playful kind of sweetness. The Alabama-born Thornley, who earned a classical music degree, landed in Los Angeles in the late '90s with her sights set on making her rock & roll dreams come true. In between various music jobs, Thornley recorded her first album, a self-titled effort that was issued on her own Stiff Hips imprint in 2002. "I Will Lie" was chosen as a rock category finalist in the 2003 USA Songwriting Competition. Three years later, Thornley returned with the confident, genre-blending My Glass Eye. Meanwhile, her songs were featured in episodes of Beautiful People, Dawson's Creek, Felicity, and Scrubs while also appearing on the Perfect Man and Between film soundtracks.
Her third full-length album, the mercurial Wash U Clean, arrived in 2010, and two years later, Bad Apples, a well-received stage musical Thornley co-wrote with frequent collaborator Rob Cairns, premiered at the Circle X Theatre in Los Angeles. In 2014 she released the EP Septagon, featuring "Last to Fall," a song she co-wrote with Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket and which also appeared on that band's mid-2015 EP, Architect of the Ruin, sung by Phillips. Thornley's own 2015 EP, the Americana-inspired All That Longing, was released later that year. Her music continued to be licensed for film and television, including Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, Girl in Progress, NBC's Friday Night Lights, and USA Network's Royal Pains. ~ MacKenzie Wilson & Marcy Donelson
