When Aizat Amdan picked up his brother’s guitar at 12 years old, it simply felt right. Born Muhammad Aizat Amdan on January 21, 1989 in Kuala Lumpur, the young talent began mastering the six-string instrument with the help of his brother Anas, entertaining his school peers with confidence and natural musical ability. After taking to the stage for reality show Akademi Fantasia in 2007, Amdan released his first single “Hanya Kau Yang Mampu”, serving up his own flavour of progressive, Britpop-influenced Malay pop-rock that struck the right chord with audiences. Amdan’s knack for dreamy, driving melodies and heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics shines on lulling third single “Lagu Kita”, which he penned at 14. The launch of family label Kasi Gegar Entertainment marked a career-defining moment for Amdan, and armed with full creative control he went on to release three albums including Percubaan Pertama (2008) and Urusan Aizat Amdan (2010), as well as producing a number of memorable tunes for movie soundtracks. The death of Amdan’s beloved father in 2019 forced him into a static state of self-contemplation, but following a songwriting sojourn in Sweden later that year, a flurry of pop gems materialised, including a groovy duet with Indonesian starlet Hanin Dhiya, “Ku Mau”.
